Which one is better?

The Week …

was filled with lies, guilt, saddness, anger all at once. I don’t want to say too much here but I have been hell and back. I have never been so distraught before. I have been conned into the job with many lies. The truth finally surfaced when I joined them. Now I know the real reasons why the ex-manager left so suddenly and hurriedly.

Within a week, I quit the job. I don’t want to be the second victim. I rather leave now rather than be unhappy there and in the end, get nothing out of it.

The fact that another good job offer is on the table makes the departure easier. On Monday, I will be joining another new company, working with my ex-ex-boss, whom someone I look upon as my mentor. She didn’t shortchanged in the job offer, and plenty of job expansion in the new role with new responsibilities and learnings.

I need to forget the miserable one week and move on ………. A truly learning experience to ask more questions, look into loopholes, 101% sure about the potential company before moving.

I’m looking forward to a new start on Monday ……

Titoudao

titoudao1.JPG

Went to watch Titoudao yesterday at the National Library Drama Center. It is a good show! Titoudao was first staged in Singapore in 1994, and its last local staging in 2000 garnered five awards at the Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards, including Play of the Year.

Titoudao depicts the real-life experiences of a Hokkien wayang actress Madam Oon Ah Chiam, and is set mainly in the mid-20th century era of Singapore. It chronicles the struggles Madam Oon faced in her ambition to become a wayang performer, amidst the various changes in societal landscape throughout the decades. The play is written and directed by Goh Boon Teck, who is the son of Madam Oon herself.

One of the many intriguing aspects of the play was the way they started the play. Or rather, the way they built up to the start of the play. I have never seen this before and it is very refreshing. When you enter the auditorium, you will see on stage a set of what appears to be the backstage dressing room area of a typical makeshift wayang stage. Also, you will see the entire cast, dressed in basic white inner clothes (the type that actors wear beneath their costumes), hanging around and basically chilling out before the performance starts.

The play is essentially a seamless amalgamation of two stories into one. The real-life story of Madam Oon, and the wayang opera in which the character Titoudao, played by Pam Oei. The whole play is 90% hokkien, 10% english, mandarin and abit of Malay. People like me who have limited understanding of hokkien will have difficulty understanding the play. However, english transaltion is being flashed on two side panels. So it won’t cause much of a problem enjoying the play.

The casts are excellent. Pam Oei is such a versatile and enigmatic performer. Chua En Lai rocks as the ugly stepsister. The way he sashayed …. hahaha … Beatrice did multiple roles despite visibly pregnant. She rocks too! Sebastian Tan duel role of Ti Boon Long and Ah Hock is so contrasting.

Don’t miss this play. Its worth your money.

Rules: Each player of this game starts out by giving 6 weird things about themselves. People who get tagged need to write in a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state the rules clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. After you do that, leave them each a comment letting them know you tagged them and to read your blog!

1. I don’t eat cheese and durians. No cheesecakes, no durians cake or whatever that have cheese and durians in it. That is why I never step into Pizza Hut for a meal.

2. I don’t know how to swim but I love to snorkel. I tried to learn swimming but never master it. I can’t float, and I keep fearing sharks in the water.

3. I love Japanese food and can eat my sashimi, sushi everyday. However, I don’t eat my japanese food with wasabi or japanese ginger. I’m so weird.

4. I grind my teeth when I sleep. Sometimes it get so bad and loud that I woke myself up with the noise I make. If I travel with someone new or never travel with me before, I always warn them in advance.

5. I don’t like heavy downpour. I have a phobia of traveling in heavy rain. I got worried of the BF/family members/friends driving, everytime when it pours heavily. I think that’s the reason why I never get my driving licence.

6. I seldom add chilli to the food I eat. I always ask for no chilli or very little chilli. However, I do eat curry and aysam dishes.

OK, I’m supposed to tag 6 person, but obviously I don’t have 6 person to tag. So, I’m only tagging Luna. Hee!

Monday Blues

I think the fact that this is the last week in the company makes me abit cranky today. It is made worse by an sms from the BF early in the morning and I’m still mad at him now. I declare cold war with him and ask him not to contact me anymore. RAWRRRR!!!!

It doesn’t help that there is a funeral going on right now at the opposite block. Yesterday, a malay wedding at the exact location. Today, a funeral. So ironic. The woman’s crying and howling is making me so sad and depressed, and I feel like crying with her.

Hope a good night’s sleep will bring my happy mood back.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Two weeks ago, the boss informed all of us to keep today (mar 14) afternoon free of any meeting. She said the whole dept will be out of the office. She didn’t tell us where we going, what are we going to do, why the whole dept is going out. She just said there will be a surprise for us. It kept us guessing the whole two weeks.

This afternoon, a small bus came to our office and whiz us off to somewhere. We didn’t know the location until we reach the place. Vivocity! We thought the boss is so kind, bring us there to give us shopping time. Hahaha … actually, she has booked the Gold Class cinema in Golden Village and gave us a treat of a movie! Yippeee! As far as I know, a movie ticket to sit in the Gold Class cinema costs $25 per person. It is so comfortable. Variety of drinks for us to choose, a generous portion of nachos and potatoe wedges with four different sources for each of us, a fully-automated adjustable sofar chair. The movie we watched was The Pursuit of Happyness by Will Smith.

A very inspirational and touching show, I was amazed at Christopher Gardner’s determination to get out of the bad rut that he was in given the unfortunate situations one after another. Great chemistry between Will Smith (who acted the father) and Jayden Smith (Will’s son in real and reel life).
