Am back from my trip! It was a short but good trip. Did alot of walking, visiting temples, climbing up & down, eat at unique & popular place, fantastic spa! Now, I’m dark & tan (even a sunblock of PA50+++ is not enough!), legs cramp, tiredness. Here’s some of my trip travelogues and photos. All in took about 140 photos with lots of good memories
Day 1
Woke up at 3.30 am for our 6 am flight to Siem Reap by Jetstar Asia. First time travelled Jetstar. It was ok. Seats are allocated but no meals provided. Seats are comfortable but not spacious, air is abit bad also. Didn’t try to food though. Too early to eat anything anyway. Flight to Siem Reap is 2 hours mins. Reached Siem Reap International Airport at 0705 (Cambodia is 1 hour behind us).

This is the new airport. Opened in Aug 2006. Clearing customs were fairly smooth. Saw our local English speaking tour guide waiting for us with our private van!
Went to our hotel to check in and a short rest before we start the day. We stayed at Angkor Holiday Hotel. Only four-storey high, this hotel looks relatively new too. The room is big, clean and friendly people. While we were travelling from the airport to our hotel (which is only 15 mins away), we saw many many hotels in Siem Reap. We saw budget guesthouses, mid-range hotels, and the 5-stars, luxury hotels. New hotels are being built every corner we passedby!

After a short rest and breakfast, we started our journey of temple visiting for the morning. First stop was Angkor Thom. One of the largest of the ancient Khmer cities, Angkor Thom (which means Great City) was the state capital of Jayavarman VII, who ruled the Khmer empire from around 1181 to 1220, with the site remaining in use for hundreds of years after his dealth. We enter Angkor Thom via the South Gate as it’s the closest gate to the main entrance to Angkor Wat.

The bridge is flanked by two sets of statues, left are the gods, right are the demons, all dragging on massive naga balustrades. The popularity of the southern gate has also a down-side — the traffic! We have to wait almost 10 mins to enter the temple. Buses, minivans, cars, motobikes and elephants jostle for passage through the narrow gateway. During the planning, the Khmer architects had allowed for the height of an elephant but not for the tour buses!
Within its walls, Angkor Thom contains a number of temples including the Bayon, The Baphuon, Phimeanakas, and the Elephant Terrace.

Certainly one of the most written-about and photographed of the monuments at Angkor, The Bayon, state temple of Jayavarman VII and some of his successors, is one of the most unusual religious monuments in the world.

Spent about 1.5 hours at the Bayon, and we proceed to the Elephants Terrace next. The Terrace of Elephants looks out over the Roya Square of Angkor Thom and as the name suggests, is craved with lots and lots of elephants.

It was lunch time after visiting the Terrace of Elephants. So we headed to the Old Market to find our lunch. Before the trip, I have already done some research and this place called Red Piano was highly recommened because Angelina Jolie ate & relax at this place very often when she was in Siem Reap filming the Tomb Raider movie.

We sat there for almost 2 hours, relaxing & chit-chatting away. Soon it was time for our spa at Visaya Spa @ FCC Hotel. We were looking forward to this the whole day! We had the Visaya Touch of Harmony package which includes a aromatic foot bath, a Hot Stones massage to relieve stress and deeply relax the body, mind and spirit, follwed by a rejuvenating facial using the well-known brand, Jurlique. The whole package costs us USD100 for 2.5 hours. I must say, the spa is real good!

After 2.5 hours relaxation, we were ready for dinner! The Blue Pumpkin is another highly popular and recommended places to eat. They serve pasta, salads, sandwiches, burgers and some thai food. Fresh breads and homemade ice-cream are served throughout the day. Even better, all breads adre 50% off after 7 pm everyday!

We bought a huge champagne bread back to the hotel for supper!
Had an early night as we were still having the after-effects of the afternoon spa and because we need to wake up at 4.30 am the next day for the sun-rise at Angkor Wat!
