Don’s Chicken Pie

 

One of our vendors came with this huge chicken pie today! Yum Yum! I love it! I always eat it when I was working near China Square. Miss it so much when moved to Tampines. The crust is lovely, very pastry-like. Generous servings of potatoes and mixed vegetables. Chicken serving was a little though. It’s rather peppery, but that’s what I like about it.

One whole pie is about $13 (if I remember correctly), and is about the size of a small cake. In one whole pie, there are halves of hard boiled eggs. One whole pie is enough for six people.

3Days2Nights

 

The ticket has been booked. Searching for hotel accommodation. Guess where I’m going this coming September?! I will be making my way to Siem Reap, Cambodia for 3 days 2 nights. Main purpose is the visit Angkor Wat, one of the seven wonders of the world!

Predictions about fare increments are 100% accurate yet again….

SMRT plans fare hikes for its bus, MRT, LRT servicesSMRT Corporation is planning to raise fares for its bus, MRT and LRT services.

It will apply for a fare adjustment by the August 1 deadline set by the Public Transport Council.

The SMRT Corporation says its total operating costs have ballooned by 20% this year because of the increase in diesel prices.

The fare hike will follow the PTC’s formula of a maximum increase of 1.7%, which translates to a rise of one or two cents, if approved.

SMRT President and CEO Saw Phaik Hwa says that its proposed fare hike will not be sufficient to mitigate rising diesel costs.

It however supports the government’s call for smaller and regular fare increases. – CNA

So what people said is true …. before election, they give you a drum stick (progress package) …. after election, they take back the whole chicken! geez!

Saturday Outing

A day spent browsing at Kinokuniya and Borders. Lunch is at Pepper Lunch, again!

We decided to check out the newly opened Raffles City Marketplace. Its HUGE! Many exciting stores. There are now Ben & Jerry’s, Ya Kun, Gloria Jeans, Ding Tai Feng, Chippy Fish & Chips, Nike, New Balance, Billabong, Crumpler, MPH and many others…

Found this new place called Piper’s Pies selling authentic Aussies pies. Bought this thing called Lamingtons. It is quite good, soft spongey yellow cake soaked with the chocolate and coated with the desicated coconut. Yummy! Should have bought more!

Kit Kat

While shopping at Watsons today, found that Nestle has came up with yet another limited edition Kit Kat.

If you are tempted to buy it because of the attractive packaging like I did, DON’T. It tastes way too sweet and artificial. What’s up with all these different flavours of Kit Kat?! I remembered the one on Sakura or Cherry Blossoms doesn’t taste good too. But I do remember the Green Tea flavour I had when I was in Japan! I love it! Please bring the Green Tea one here to SG, pretty pleassseee!

Finally Over – World Cup

After a month of battles among the countries, we finally have a champion. It was an exciting match. I think Frances deserve to win. They played well throughout the match.

Am disappointed that Zidane lost his cool. So unlike him. Perhaps its the stress & tension! It’s really sad that he had to retire this way. *Sigh*

France vs Italy

And so, France meeting Italy in the World Cup 2006 Finals! Woke up at 3 am these past 2 mornings to catch the matches and I must say that :

1. I was surprised that I didn’t resist falling back to sleep when the alarm goes off at 3 am! I even look forward to wake up at 3 am!

2. I didn’t fell asleep half way thru the matches!

3. I still can fall back to sleep for another 1.5 or 2 hours after the match before waking up again at 7 am to prepare for work!

 

What I saw this morning was truly a display of what a gentlemen’s game should be. This photo says it all. True sportsmanship. Both said that this will be their last World Cup. No harsh words, shoutings, punches or kicks exchanged. Just a congratulatory hug.

Taxi Fares Woes

From July 10, the flag-down fare for Comfort, CityCab and Yellow-Top taxis will be $2.50, up by 10 cents. For the Mercedes taxis, the flag-down fare will rise by 20 cents to $2.80. ComfortDelgro also said that there would be a distance-related fare adjustment to better reflect the relationship between fuel costs and distance travelled.Trips less than 10 kilometres will be charged at 10 cents for every 210 metres travelled compared to 225 metres currently. For trips above 10 kilometres, the charge will be 10 cents per 175 metres compared to 200 metres now.

To correct the disequilibrium between demand and supply during peak periods, the peak hour surcharge will be raised from $1 to $2.

From July 10, morning peak hours will be from 7am to 9.30am on weekdays, but Saturday mornings will no longer be defined as peak. The evening peak hours remain unchanged.

This is bad news indeed! I don’t think the increase in peak hour surcharge will be any better to people who generally flag down the taxis and taxi drivers will be less willing to pick up passengers, and without the surcharge it’s already becoming a problem. Though I seldom take the cab these days, but try flagging down a cab early in the morning or on Friday/Saturday night, you will get so frustrated that sometimes I just want to walk home, no matter how far I am! I think the increase in fare prices won’t make the matters better! No more cabs for me now. Buses & MRT for me. But I think it is only a matter of time before the fares for buses & mrt will go up too!
